Peace Child Israel and Temple University Community Theatre Department present:

Six Actors in Search of a Plot

A New Play

Written and Compiled by Mohammad el-Thaher and Billy Yalowitz

Director and Choreographer: Billy Yalowitz

“…As Jacob faces this, Esau, the stuck twin, is finally able to move freely.  As Esau moves freely, Jacob’s broken heart is healed. Can there be two birthrights, one for each brother? …”

In its 18th year of activity, the Year of Life, Peace Child Israel produces its first professional play, about birth, life and the ramifications of history. Jewish and Arab actors from the staff and close circle of theatre colleagues, present the first run of the new bilingual play SIX ACTORS IN SEARCH OF PLOT in the following communities where its youth program is being implemented:

31/12/05      Ein haHoresh Theatre (Emek Hefer)    19:00

03/01/06      Jerusalem YMCA Auditorium             19:00

(this production is in cooperation with the Jerusalem international YMCA)

06/01/06      Qalansua Community Center               19:30

07/01/06      Kibbutz Baram Theatre                       20:30

15/01/06     Um el-Fachem Municipal Theatre            19:00

An Opportunity for Adult-talk

Peace Child Israel will offer the adults an opportunity to talk.  A discussion with between the actors and the audience about the plot that could be written on a new canvas will conclude each performance.  An invitation to the audience to continue the discussion with “the other”, and take up the torch of playwriting their own future will offered by Peace Child Israel to the adults who are placing all their faith in the future generations, but are willing to take risk taking responsibility for the present.

The focal point of Six Actors Searching for a Plot is the question of history. What role does history play in cross-cultural dialogue and reconciliation? How can we reconcile our disparate histories toward a just co-existence for the Arab and Jewish sectors of Israeli society?

“…We’ve seen history, limping along, dragged by a prostitute.  It won’t lead us anywhere…”
