Inspiration and Successes
As the calendar indicates, there is much to be grateful for. A large number of individuals “in the system” remained committed and engaged throughout the entire year despite enormous challenges. The facilitation staff was not immune from the world around it, and required support that was supplied as best as the organization was able to provide. They remained committed while experiencing many doubts and asking many questions themselves.
The fact that any teenagers were participating in dialogue of any kind, and that the parents – though concerned – were supporting them, was a source of inspiration throughout the year. While it may be a small voice in the abyss of darkness shrouding this region, the fact remains that there is still commitment to at least continue the search for coexistence reconciliation between Arabs and Jews in Israel.
Parental concern about participant travel, and the content of the discussions was more influential than ever. Nonetheless, school principals and liaisons - wherever the program was inaugurated - remained committed throughout the 10-month process.
