In the first year, the curriculum of each of the different types of groups is the same. The difference is in terms of extracurricular activities.
The Jewish New Year and the beginning of Ramadan nearly coincide this coming year, towards the end of September. Plans for the New Year, as far as Peace Child Israel is concerned, began in May. Teen Activity Despite these extremely disturbing times, three groups of Arab and Jewish teens entering the 10th grade will be reconvening at 3-day seminars for reviving their play and polishing their post-performance discussions as they continue as “Leadership Troupes” with monthly performances for school audiences and monthly meetings for their continued group-process. The principals at the six schools are proud that their teens will be representing their schools honorably in this leadership role but they are very unhappy that NEW groups will not begin in September. While this is a nice compliment, expected funds at the moment will not allow us to provide the program for a new batch of 9th-grade students at those schools. Six new groups will be inaugurated in September . Staff training begins in August.New for 2006-2007 Teachers Course - Peace Child Israel will be partnering with another organization in developing a unique 60-hour course for teachers in the youth program from partnering schools. Theatre texts and narratives will be the basis for the course. The pilot is planned for September 2007 between teachers from Emek Hefer and Qalansua, who are keen to proceed ASAP. Six Actors in Search of a Plot – U.S. Tour Performances in New York are at the Nagelberg Theatre of the Baruch College Performing Arts Center at 55 Lexington Avenue @ 25th Street (between Lexington & 3rd Avenues). Performances in Philadelphia will be at the Painted Bride Arts Center at 230 Vine Street. Performances are October 13, 14, and 15 at 8 pm. A Jerusalem performance at the Khan Theatre will take place in September (Stay tuned for details) Six Actors in Search of a Plot premiered in Jerusalem in January 2006. The Jerusalem Post commented that the piece sparks creative thinking about how Jews and Arabs can transcend their divergent historical narratives to create a better shared future: “...after a viewing of the unconventional project it’s inevitable that [the audience] will start talking.” The New York Times observed that the play “explores not only themes of illusion and reality, but also ways that truth is distorted...during the first five days of rehearsals...the Palestinian and Jewish actors argued about nearly every line.” Annual Appeal We appeal to you, PCI friends and supporters, to continue with the invaluable help to continue working and to expand the activity at Peace Child Israel. Who
Peace Child Israel is the pioneer and veteran of coexistence programs through the medium of theatre for Arab and Jewish teenagers. In 1988, the late Habima Theatre actress Yael Drouyanoff formed an NGO with members of the Arab and Jewish community, with the help of David Gordon, co-founder of Peace Child International. Teenagers from neighboring communities meet weekly and conclude their first year of activity by writing and performing original plays in Arabic and Hebrew. They continue as young leaders by performing their plays for school audiences. Groups are co-facilitated by Arab and Jewish professionals from the field of theatre and social work. The PCI Board of Directors is comprised of Arab and Jewish individuals from the field of social work, education, communication and finances. Peace Child Israel is a registered “amuta” and receives “correct management” status annually. Since inception, Peace Child has grown from one workshop in Jaffa to a nation-wide organization, reaching a record 11 workshops in the 2005-2006 cycle. In 2001, parents of participants were added to the circle of activity.
